Fraud Prevention

How does Copart ensure safe and secure online transactions?

Fraud Prevention

Copart maintains processes and procedures to reduce fraud across many parts of the company.
All Members must have a valid government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or ID card. This helps prevent fraud and protects Members from identity theft.

Copart also continuously tests and upgrades its cyber-security to protect Member information against criminal intrusions.

We encourage Members to take steps to protect themselves as well:

    • Never deal with anyone claiming to be from Copart who wants to sell you something outside of our platform.
    • Never wire money or accept a cashier’s check from someone you don’t know.
Copart will never contact you by phone to confirm your account details, or ask for information like your Social Security number, bank account information, PayPal account, etc.
    • If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. It’s usually best to walk away.
    • Scammers often asks for your name, address, etc. for printing on the fake check.
    • A distant person offers to send you a cashier’s check or money order and then have you wire money. This is ALWAYS a scam in our experience—the cashier's check is FAKE. Sometimes it accompanies an offer of merchandise, sometimes not. Be on your guard and use common sense.

If you suspect you are the target or victim of a scammer, report fraud in the US to these agencies:
